Job Purpose:
Provide legal support to the operations of the Bank, with special emphasis on litigation, security documentation and advisory at Zonal level.
Main Responsibilities:
Business and Operational delivery
- Prepare court documents and represent the bank in courts of law.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsels within the zone and ensure all cases assigned to external legal counsels are properly handled.
- Provide guidance on all legal related issues facing branches within the zone.
- Review internal documents and policies to ensure they are drafted in accordance with applicable legislations.
- Responsible for identifying legal risks associated with the operations of the bank and propose mechanisms for mitigating such risks.
- Submit monthly reports to the Head; Legal on status of execution of objectives under the role
- Provide updates to the Head; Legal and/or a person acting in that position on legal related issues affecting the operations of the bank.
- Preparation of security documents for customers.
- Oversee timely registration of security documents in the respective zone.
- Provide legal awareness and education to the bank’s staff to ensure they are aware of and are compliant with legal requirements.
- Provide legal opinions and guidance to branches and Head Office departments on various aspects of the operations of the bank.
- Manage relationships with stakeholders such as courts, law enforcement organs, land registries etc.
- Attend and participate in relevant bank meetings when required/requested.
- Assist in advising on recovery matters.
- Perform all other duties assigned to him/her by the Head; Legal.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Business understanding of legal and compliance framework.
- Knowledge and understanding of Laws of Tanzania.
- Drafting and Review Skills, litigation Skills and Commercial law background.
- Communication, Decision Making, Flexibility, Quality Orientation
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- A quick learner who can work under minimum supervision.
- Customer Focus, Planning and Organizational skills.
- Change Management skills and with ability to take varying approaches with a dynamic set of stakeholders.
- Strategical thinking with problem-solving skills.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB); Registered Advocate
